Our Story

Ojiibikan

Ojiibikan is an Anishinaabe-led organization based in the Eastern Upper Peninsula of Michigan. Their work focuses on the regeneration of land, language, and land-based practices in order to ensure a healthy and vibrant future for the land and the people.

Anishinaabeg Kinomaagewgamig

Minogiizhgad is the Immersion Coordinator at Anishinaabeg Kinomaagewgamig, an Anishinaabemowin language immersion school in Bkejwanong. They are developing confident language speakers who will be grounded in Anishinaabeg identity. 

Nwewnan Sasaang

Minogiizhgad provides leadership for the language nest in Bkejwanong. Here, 2 to 5 year old children are immersed in “Anishinaabemowin eta” (“Anishinaabe language only”) environment and participate in cultural and family-based education.  

Ojibwe Charter School

The Ojibwe Charter School serves the Bay Mills community by providing traditional academic training alongside Ojibwe language and cultural teachings. Joshua Biron is their language and culture teacher.
